This Bible story teaching pack is titled “The true Christmas story 1: The prophecy and birth of Jesus”.

The story introduces Mary who was engaged to be married to Joseph. Angel Gabriel appeared to Mary prophesying the birth of the promised Saviour, and telling Mary she was the favoured woman to be pregnant and give birth to this special Baby. Even though Mary didn’t understand how this was going to happen or why she was chosen to fulfil this special prophecy, she trusted God and appreciated God for choosing her. Mary and Joseph later got married and travelled to Bethlehem to be counted. There, the promised Baby was born – in a manger, surrounded by animals! The angels announced his birth to shepherds, who went to see the Baby. They later announced His birth to everyone they met.   

What does the story mean for kids? Kids will learn to trust God even when they don’t understand some things just like Mary trusted God.

In addition, kids will learn about the faithfulness of God in keeping His promises – doing what He says He will do. All the prophecies about the birth of Jesus came true. Lastly, kids will learn to share the good news of God’s grace with everyone they meet – just like the shepherds shared the good news about the birth of Jesus.

The bible references for the story are as follows: Luke 1: 26 – 45; Luke 2: 1 -18; Matthew 1: 18 – 25.  

We do not take for granted the call and ministry of training kids in a godly way – right from their childhood. Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6).

Also, we do not underestimate the potentials for kids to understand and store God’s word in their hearts from their early age. And that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus (2 Timothy 3:15).

Our desire, hope and joy is that each child might come to experience love and grace in Jesus as they understand His words.
