Easter is a very significant time in the history of Christianity. It is a time when we remember and celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. As Christians, we understand that Jesus came to fulfill the prophecies written about Him in the Scriptures.

Now My soul is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save Me from this hour’? But for this purpose I came to this hour (John 12:27).

His suffering and death bring us forgiveness of sins, healing, daily victories, peace, and reconciliation with God and so much more.

But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, everyone, to his own way; and the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all (Isaiah 53:5-6).

The suffering and death of Jesus is proof that God loves us deeply. If you are doubting God’s love for you, please read and meditate on the following verses:

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8)

By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us (1 John 3:16a)

Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends (John 15:13).

The story of redemption and salvation through the suffering and death of Jesus is not reserved for adults only. Jesus died for children too. This is why we are excited to share this bible story teaching pack with you.

You will notice the title, “Jesus suffers and dies”. Well, that’s part of the story. It is not complete without the resurrection of Jesus. So, we have divided the Easter story into two series for young learners. The second part is titled, “Jesus is alive” and can be downloaded here.

The first part of the Easter story summarizes the events that led to the death of Jesus on the cross of Calvary. These events include the Passover feast; betrayal of Jesus by Judas; the denial of Jesus by Peter; the trial of Jesus before Caiaphas, the high priest and Pontius Pilate; mockery by the soldiers and so on. The story also emphasizes the importance and necessity of the suffering and death of Jesus. So, it is not just a story – it is a life-changing event that spans through generations till date.

The bible references for the story are as follows: Matthew 26:1 -38, 45-52; Luke 23:39-43.
