The clock struck 4:00a.m. as Ray looked up from his computer. He let out a tiny yawn, stretched his fingers and reached out for his phone to adjust the alarm for “dive into bed” – for the fifth time.  He couldn’t take that dive yet.

He has been working on a research project for some weeks and did not seem to be making any progress. There were too many setbacks that made him begin to doubt his ability to conclude the project. He was having a “blackout”, totally at a loss on how to go about bringing the project together in a meaningful way – and the deadline was fast approaching.

In his despair, he cried, “Oh Lord God, breathe on me!” as he drove home from the office.

After having dinner, he decided to confront the project again for a few hours before going to bed. He logged onto his computer and …whoosh! A fountain seemed to burst inside of him. He typed hurriedly as if someone was dictating the words to him. He was swimming in the river of divine inspiration.

We understand that the breath of God is the source of human life.  And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being (Genesis 2:7).

Beyond creation, that same breath sustains us, keeps us alive today. The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life (Job 33:4).

At the cross, Jesus paid the price for eternal life – setting us free from sin and death. And so it is written, “The first man Adam became a living being. The last Adam became a life-giving spirit” (1 Corinthians 15:45).

As we walk through life, we are often confronted with “blackout” situations – confusion, loss of direction, deep anxiety, spiritual darkness etc. Some situations may even appear hopeless, but it is written, “thus says the Lord GOD to these bones: “surely, I will cause breath to enter into you, and you shall live. I will put sinews on you and bring flesh upon you, cover you with skin and put breath in you; and you shall live. Then you shall know that I am the LORD” (Ezekiel 37:5-6).

Our All-powerful God can easily deal with any situation! For with God nothing will be impossible (Luke 1:37).
