Is your name written in the book of life?

Four-year-old David was becoming fascinated by his name. His parents, Moses and Bianca, have told him lots of stories about David from the bible. One day, while Moses was reading his bible, David sat beside him, peered into the page he was reading and saw his name written on it. He was very excited.

“That’s my name!”, he shouted, pointing to the name on the page.

“Yes, that’s your name, David. I’m reading the book of 1st Samuel chapter 17”, his father explained.

“Show me Deborah’s name in the bible”, he asked, assuming his sister’s name was in the bible.

Moses flipped to Judges chapter 4, verse 4, and pointed to his sister’s name, Deborah.  David smiled.

“Show me your name, please”, David continued.

Moses flipped to Exodus chapter 2, verse 10, and pointed to his name. David smiled again.

“What about Mummy’s name? Where is it in the bible?”, David asked.

“My name is not in the bible”, Bianca said. David looked surprised.

“My name is not there, but my name is in the register in heaven. Remember that Jesus wants us to believe in Him, become His friends and stop doing bad things? If we say yes Jesus, I believe in You. I want to be your friend, I want you to help me to stop doing bad things; our names will be written in the register in heaven”, Bianca explained.

Knowing that our names are written in the register, the book of life in heaven, should get us excited. Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven (Luke 10:20).

For our names to be written in the book of life, we have to be born-again – repent and turn from our old ways of sin to a new life in Jesus. Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God” (John 3:3).

After we have invited Jesus into our lives, He wants us to continue walking with Him, living a life of victory over sin. The grace of God is available for us to live this victorious life. For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works (Titus 2:11-14).

He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels (Revelation 3:5).
