Living in God’s will

Phoebe checked her email to discover that she had not been selected for the Research position she applied for.

Her friend, Mary, had come visiting and they discussed their career paths. Mary was surprised to hear that Phoebe had not been selected despite being highly qualified and getting through to the last stage of the interview.

“I’m sorry Phoebe”, Mary said.

“No, you don’t have to be. I felt so peaceful when I received the news”, Phoebe replied.

“Why, I don’t understand”, Mary questioned.

“Neither do I understand. It’s a strange experience but in that moment, I was so sure that the job was not for me at this time”, Phoebe explained.

“That’s interesting. What are you going to do now?”, Mary asked.

“I’m going to continue volunteering at the Future Leaders Centre while I continue my search, trusting God to give me what He has planned for me”.

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28).

Six months later, Phoebe’s husband was promoted at work and transferred to another office in Baltimore to resume as the Business Manager.  In that same period, Phoebe received an email from a company in Baltimore. The Director read one of Phoebe’s research publications and was very impressed. He wondered if she would like to fill a vacant Research position in the company.

As Phoebe and her husband were relocating to Baltimore, she knew deep down that the events were not mere coincidence, and that was what God wanted for her family at the time. There are many plans in a man’s heart, nevertheless the LORD’s counsel—that will stand (Proverbs 19:21).

Living in the will of God involves actively seeking and pursuing whatever God wants us to do at every phase of our lives. It involves allowing God to interrupt our personal plans so that His will can be done in our lives. When God said he had good thoughts for us, he truly meant it.

Let us continue to seek and align ourselves with the will and purpose of God for our lives. This is our happy place, where we will find true joy and fulfillment. Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths (Proverbs 3:5-6).
