God still speaks to us today

Tiana was in a hurry but couldn’t find a parking space at the shopping mall. She drove round for a few minutes and finally found a spot where cars were parked on both sides of the road. She slowed down and reluctantly began to position her car to park. She thought about what Greg, her husband, might think about the spot. She knew he would not approve of it as there had been several accidents on that road. She was still thinking of whether to risk parking there or not when she heard a familiar voice.

“Darling, don’t park here. It’s an unnecessary risk”.  Greg was speaking through her thoughts.

She backed out of the parking lot and drove a few metres forward. Just then, she found a safer space and parked her car. As she undid her seatbelt and got ready to get down, a car screeched past her, shattering another car’s side mirror as the driver sped along. That happened where she had initially thought to park.

Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” whenever you turn to the right hand, or whenever you turn to the left (Isaiah 30:21).

God is constantly speaking to us through different means, just as He had been speaking from the very beginning. God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son… (Hebrews 1:1-2). “…He spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets, who have been since the world began” (Luke 1:70).

We can trust God’s guidance on any issue we face because He knows the end from the beginning. Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things that are not yet done, saying, “My counsel shall stand, and I will do all My pleasure” (Isaiah 46:10).

Hearing God speak should be our daily pursuit. Knowing God’s will on every issue will help us overcome confusion and deception. However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth… (John 16:13).

The closer we get to know God, the clearer we hear Him speak, and the more we can discern other “voices” calling our attention. And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. Yet they will by no means follow a stranger, but will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers (John 10:4-5). We know from the Bible that God still speaks today. The question is: are we listening? If anyone has an ear, let him hear (Revelation 13:9).
