There is power in the Word

“How’s your TikTok doing?” Matt asked his friend as they prepared to leave the class after the day’s lecture.

“Er…it’s just there”, Shaun replied with irritation.

“What do you mean just there? Well, have you seen my recent video? In one day, I got 1million views. Can you believe that? It’s insane. I’m not too surprised though. Remember when I told you about my……”, Matt ranted on.

You don’t deserve to suffer this way. See? No one takes a genuine interest in you. Not on social media and not even in real life. Your parents and siblings do not care about you. None of those you call friends care either. What are you living for? Peace is just a breath away. Just do it today. Are you a chicken?”. The suicide thoughts were back in Shaun’s head.

“Nooooo!”, cried out Shaun.

“No? I’m giving you an opportunity of a lifetime; you’re saying no. Were you listening to me at all? Matt questioned.

Shaun grabbed his backpack and ran as fast as he could. He had to get back to his apartment. Just as he turned the doorknob, a note fell onto his sandals. He picked it up.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil;
For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me
(Psalms 23:4)

Then the LORD said to him, “Peace be with you; do not fear, you shall not die (Judges 6:23)

I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the LORD (Psalms 118:17).

“Call me. I would like to meet up for lunch sometime this week”. Your new neighbour.

As Shaun fixed his eyes and opened his heart to those words, they became real to him. The power in the word activated faith and courage in his heart. “Yes, I shall not die”, he repeated severally to himself as his tears flowed freely. The word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword… (Hebrews 4:12).

In the bible, we find guidance, insight, correction, encouragement, etc. for every situation and circumstance. “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16).

We need to constantly read, meditate, and believe the Scripture to experience the power in the word. So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God (Romans 10:17). “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success” (Joshua 1:8).
